Article: WELCOME
WELCOME to the MMF Wiki!OK, guys (& gals), here's what we've got... This is the brand spanking new MMF Wiki, which I found out about just moments ago! If you're not familiar with a "wiki," it's a user-edited encyclopedia. This is our very own repository for our collective "mountain man" knowledge. It will have articles just like an encyclopedia that MMF users can edit. Experts here can write "how-to" articles for new users & visitors to read. Others can come along and add to those articles. You do have to be a logged-in member to write or edit articles, but anyone can come & browse what we have up. It will become a complete reference guide to everything "mountain man." It will be written & compiled by US, the MountainManForum members. The articles need to be objective information, just like you would expect to see in an encyclopedia. We need to stay away from personalized* stuff on the Wiki -- we have the MMF forum for that. If you want to post questions pertaining to a particular article, then look on the Syntax page for how to do that, so that they show up as a question. We'll hammer out some "official" rules for wiki articles as the wiki develops. For now, though, just keep in mind that anything that goes in here should be objective & informative. * Phil, does this have to be so strict? That is preventing me from using it. No, not at all... I guess that didn't come across quite right. Reading back over it, I see what you mean. I'm sorry for the confusion. What I meant there was that we want to stay away from the day-to-day chit-chat stuff with the Wiki. Heck, if you've got something to put up, have at it. ;-) Any of the members can pop on & edit it if they want to. MMF has shaped up to be a pretty informal, laid back place to hang out, & personally, I think the Wiki should be the same way. I just had the classic wiki/encyclopedia form in mind. As far as I'm concerned, if you're conveying good, reliable info, feel free to post away. :-D Don't worry if your spelling or grammer isn't perfect. Other registered users can clean that up if they notice a mistake. The "syntax" controls may take a little getting used to, but they're fairly simple to learn, and if anyone needs help with that, you can post on the forum or PM me there, and I'll be glad to help. So, if you have knowledge to share in your areas of expertise, go ahead and put an article or two together! If you're not comfortable with the process of posting to the wiki, I'll help you with that, or just PM it to Justin or myself, & we'll see to it that it finds a home. There's literally nothing on the wiki as I write this, but that will soon change. As more articles are contributed, the wiki will grow. With enough user participation, the MMF Wiki will become the first place to check for anything & everything pertaining to the "mountain man." As far as we know, this is the ONLY Mountain Man wiki on the Internet. There's lots of awesome information on various websites, and some really good forums, too, but not a user-contributed & user-edited pile of collective knowledge like this. This is an exclusive to MMF. Others may copy us, but WE were the first. ;-) -- Jam NOTE: If you can see an EDIT button on your screen you're logged in. If you can't then you might want to pop back to the forum and ask how. FYI:The only page that is not editable is the syntax page which has instructions for how to use this thing. This looks like it might just be too cool! "trapperken" This article was edited on Fri, 09 May 08 17:45:11 -0500 This article was edited on Fri, 09 May 08 17:47:42 -0500 |
